Head Sketch
Breaking the wacom back out for another night of sketching / painting and what not, I created a face. I think the most fun I have with the tablet vs traditional media is using undo. I like being able to ideate on something in my head and just altogether remove it if I don't like it or if it isn't as impressive as I thought it was going to be.
I spent about 40 minutes developing and rendering this sketch. I want to get faster for one thing and I believe I should be able to with practice. Oh well. It's what I can do for now.

Kunta's Revenge : WIP
This will end up being a fully rendered piece (hopefully). It's in the thumbnail stage right now. I am just trying to figure out the pose and adding in some lighting to help define the light source and the mass.
I am going to have to spend a lot of time on this particular picture because in order for it to deliver the impact I want it to have, I'll need to learn a lot about rendering.
It's a work in progress but hopefully even in this stage, you can still feel it a little bit.

Say hello to Larry Charles aka Blackmassive
Well today at work I was given a Wacom tablet. I lost to the pen to my old one and I never got around to ordering another one. Concept art and drawing has been something that I have always had both a fascination and appreciation for. I want to continue to develop my abilities, though I am not ever going to be a concept artist, I do want to become a better artist. Drawing characters is one of my favorite hobbies to this day.
So to kick things off I wanted to make this blog for my artwork, and create a new artist identity. You may be wondering "Why Blackmassive?" The answer in short is... Blackmassive is a metaphor for "I am not as good as the guys at Massive Black yet but I do want to be like them AND because I am 6'5 and 251lbs and African American. I thought it was a great fit all around
So my first work in 2010 is this painting of my new avatar icon.
